I decided to try out a Vulkan list today and so I built one up to throw around on Vassal. It is fairly standard. I took:
Vulkan
Master of the Forge- servo harness, pw/pistol
Rifleman Dread
Rifleman Dread
6 Assault Terminators- 5 th/ss, 1 lc all riding in a Land Raider Cursader
5 man tac squad- las/plas razorback
5 man tac squad- las/plas razorback
5 man tac squad- las/plas razorback
Dread- multi-melta, DCCW/heavy flamer, drop pod
Dread- multi-melta, DCCW/heavy flamer, drop pod
Dread- multi-melta, DCCW/heavy flamer, drop pod
As you can see, nothing really exciting to see. Vulkan and the MotF went with the terminators in the crusader. Pods are meant come in and alpha strike things, which didn't work in this game. The tac squads are really just there to sit on my objectives and fire lascannons and plasma guns at stuff.
I was lucky to run into a fairly fluffy Eldar list. It had:

Guardian squad- 12 strong, 2x flamers, warlock with embolden and spear, riding in a wave serpent with shuriken cannons

So I got off lucky here. No seer council shennigans. Only two skimmers. I would just have to deal with his army wasting two turns of the game.
Well, despite having never played an army like this, I didn't do too bad. I lucked out and we rolled annihilation. My opponent played well, but ultimately, my AV and twin-linked/master crafted stuff took its toll. We did go all the way to turn 7 with me clearing everything out but a single warp spider.
Things, I have noticed about Vulkan.
1) The dude is hard. I always made sure to put him on the edges of combats away from characters or anything that might cause reliable wounds, but I think he could hold his own if need be. a 2+/3++ and a S6 master crafted relic blade do damage. I didn't manage to use his gauntlet as I normally just assaulted into things, but he is a tough nut.
2) Twin-linked meltas are gross. Taking away all but about 10% of misses makes your meltas highly reliable. Putting them on dreads in pods is even scarier for opponents. Couple that with a twin-linked heavy flamer in the other hand and you have 3 tough walkers wondering around.
3) Vulkan and the MotF/Dread Heavy list seem to me to be a naturally intelligent list building dynamic. If I had more than 3 drop pods, I would possibly think about trying 5 dreads with multi-meltas in pods.
4) Master Crafted Thunder hammers aren't too much better than the already were. Their main draw is their staying power with a 2+/3++. The hammer attacks are just a bonus. Adding the lightning claw terminator gave me a bit of up front punch in assault, but otherwise, they perform just about they way you would expect them to.
5) Tac squads are more useless in this list. I took 3 squads of 5 marines and I didn't think the list need more. I think I would have struggled more if I were playing an objective game, but really, Vulkan, the hammernators, and the dreads take care of most things.
6) The Master of the Forge is along solely to unlock more dreads. He doesn't do much else. He can be a bit of a liability with no invul. save. He did help me out by repairing a rifleman dread at the end of the game. That same dread shot and popped the last walker on turn 7.
So Vulkan rocks. I see why he has such a great reputation. Anyone out there have a different spin on a Vulkan list? Let me see it. Thanks for reading.
