If you read my stuff, you sooner or later find out that I started out as a wargamer with Warhammer Fantasy. As a matter of fact, I started as a WFB Dark Elf player. That is the only army I have kept for the entirety of my wargaming career. They are my first and will probably be my last. So, that said, the more reading I do, the more I am tempted to pick up Dark Eldar. I know, I know. HERESY!!!!
Yeah, I get it. BUT, Dark Eldar really strike me as an army that fits my play style. They are very much a "keep your distance, until you can mount a surgical strike" type army. That is kind of how I play my Space Wolves. Lots of ranged weapons and when you get close, I pound you like no tomorrow. Dark Eldar just do that with paper airplanes.
Yeah, I also get that they are not as competitive. I don't really care. Competitiveness is what you make of it and they can be tough and absolutely shred many armies.
So, I guess, I want to know what you think about Dark Eldar. I love incubi, venoms, talos pain engines, mandrakes. The models are gorgeous. The fluff is grim and dark. And I already play their Fantasy Equivalents. So, there you go. Let me hear you opinion on Dark Eldar. Do you like them? Do you not? Most importantly, though, tell why.

Well, before I piced up my Flesh Tearers army, DE was actually going to be my next project army. They are VERY versatile, more so than most of the latest releases.
I love the flyers they get, and with a lot of units that are multi-faceted it makes for a lot of diverse options.
Oh, and dont let anyone tell you an army isn't competitive. IMHO, every army can slug it out on the table, however, the army and the person playing it need to have synergy. You cant really turn a Gremlin into a Ferrari, even if your try really hard lol.
That was why I opted to go with Tearers than DE. I also know a local Tau player who has a great army, but its almost like he tries to play tau as marines, and loses quite a bit because he won't play tau like tau.
